The Tech Academy is a trade school headquartered in Portland, Oregon that offers full-time and part-time bootcamps online and in-person at their Portland campus. The Tech Academy offers part-time and full-time bootcamps in computer programming, website development, cybersecurity, game development, mobile development, data science, front-end development, tech marketing, and tech sales. The immersive experience aims to create well-rounded technology professionals, and also gives students the option to take the course at their own pace. There are also no set starts dates or rigid scheduling. Students can enroll at any time, study from home, and choose whatever study schedule they would like.

The Tech Academy’s bootcamps cover topics including computer science fundamentals, programming basics, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, C#, Python, Bootstrap, jQuery, React.js, project management, Agile, Scrum, MVC, version control, Java, and more. Each bootcamp also includes a Live Project, where students gain real-life experience to add to their resume as well as job placement  assistance.

None of The Tech Academy's bootcamps require any tech background or experience. To apply, applicants need to take an IQ test with logic-based questions (to ensure applicants can read, write and perform basic math), followed by an admissions interview.

The final part of every The Tech Academy bootcamp is the Job Placement Course which covers interviewing skills, resume writing, where to find tech jobs, and gives students access to job placement staff who assist students in landing technical positions.

    The Tech Academy was amazing!

I started programming profiile pages on Myspace for my friends so I could have lunch money when I was in middle/high school. Years later I found myself teaching myself how to write code again and wanted to do it for a profession. I didn't have the time or energy for a 4 year+ program and thats when I found out about Boot Camps. I found that The Tech Academy had the best all around curriculum that I needed so I registered. The hardest part for me was the C# course but I learned so much from...

    Meh

I attended The Tech Academy, first as an online student and, later, as an onsite student in Portland, OR. I did not complete the Job Placement course so I am not officially a graduate even though I have completed all of the actual "learning" at the school.

    Hi Ted,

Thanks for your review! I'm sorry you didn't have the greatest experience at The Tech Academy. I think you're totally right in that the traditional lecture-based, non-self-paced school would have been a better option for you, since it sounds like that was more what you were looking for in the first place.

Each language we teach could, and does, have an entire bootcamp dedicated to learning that one language. So, we wouldn't go as deep into JavaScript as a bootcamp entirely dedicated to teaching JavaScript. The product of The Tech Academy is a well-rounded junior developer, who has a strong foundation and understanding of core development fundamentals including databases, web development, scripting languages, etc. who by the end, can get a job in software and continue to learn and have a lasting career.

Yes, students do study independently at their own pace. But especially for students who are studying in-person at one of our campuses, there's plenty of opportunity for collaboration and interaction. The weekly soft skills interview roundtable meetings, weekly technical interview roundtables, Wednesday brunches, Friday Tech Talks, and the Live Project at the end of the program all provide opportunities to build camaraderie.

The Job Placement Course has been completely revamped since you did the program. On this course, we've taken all of the most successful actions and advice from our hundreds of graduates who have gotten jobs, and we put it all into the course. You're welcome to take it now for free. We'd still love to help you in any way to get a job.

I'm sorry you feel you didn't get adequate feedback on your drills. I will look into this and get any needed correction done on this.

As mentioned earlier, there is the live project, where student collaborate on a 2-week sprint, working together and developing in an agile environment for a real client. While you're working on the main part of the curriculum, when requested, you are paired up with someone else to work through difficult projects. But paired programming is not the norm throughout the whole program.

You're right that our main curriculum doesn't cover software testing. However, we do have an optional course that you can take that does cover that. Also, the new Job Placement Course covers the Technical Interview in greater depth, which is another reason you might want to jump onto that. :)

We'd still love to do anything possible to help give you a better experience and land a job, so feel free to reach out to me personally at vpforquality@learncodinganywhere.com and we can see what we can do.

    Best,
    Danny Condon

    Made my career shift possible!

Earlier this year, I was laid off from my recurrent temp position of 5 years.. sounds ridiculous, I know, and I had had enough. A former co-worker of mine in the IT department suggested that, since I was interested in software but had no technical background whatsoever and didn't know where to start, that I find a coding bootcamp if I was serious about making the switch. After researching my options, I ended up choosing the Tech Academy because they had a remote option for students, as wel...

Great for those who like learning at their own pace

I completed this bootcamp and I now work as an instructor at a different bootcamp. I spent about half my time learning online and half in-person.

It's nice to be able to move at your own pace yet still have real people grade your work. If you're not going to put in more effort than what is asked, you may not have the best experience because the courses are short and only teach you the basics. If you enjoy diving deeper into a subject then this shouldn't be an issue for you. Expec...

    Hi Jake,

Thanks for your review! I'm glad you enjoyed the self-paced aspect of things. And that's awesome you're a teacher at another bootcamp now, well done! You're totally right in that we don't teach absolutely everything about each language you learn. You learn enough to be able to get a job, then on-the-job experience really builds up the expertise, which I'm sure you're doing now on a daily basis. I believe there must have been some type of misunderstanding on the partnerships or reputation with local businesses. New Relic has hired 8 of our graduates and regularly asks for more, and we just sent a handful of our graduates to Summit Wireless for paid internships in C# Developer roles. That's just to name a couple. No, we don't guarantee a job, but we certainly do have strong relationships with various local businesses. Our Job Placement Director (jobplacementdirector@learncodinganywhere.com), Aaron Frichtl, is the person who can point you in the right direction. And if you're looking at moving back into the area, I'm sure we could help give you some direction. I'm glad you're working in the industry now, and hope you have a great career in the future!

    Best,
    Danny

    Huge Value!

I wanted to break into the tech industry after graduating college but did not quite have enough experience or a portfolio to show employers. I shopped around the various available bootcamps quite a bit and landed on The Tech Academy primarily for its flexible, self-paced program and reasonable tuition. I was working full time with a non-standard work schedule so being able to complete the courses on not only a part time schedule but a schedule that I got to determine was extremely ideal.

    Better than Expected

This was definitely one of the most interesting times of my life. The application process for the school was pretty seamless and easy to get started. However, I do feel as though I was pushed to sign up faster for the "discounted tuition". It was available every month subsequent. I did not enjoy that pressure. When the course work began for me, I was informed that they would be  making changes and updating information as I went along. Going through the program and the courses I set a weekl...

Hey Stefon, thanks for the review!

I am sorry you felt pressured on the tuition increase! We actually did just increase the tuition $1,000. What happens is that once a month our Board of Directors meet and one of the topics they discuss is the tuition price. We cost less than the average code school and sometimes the Board of Directors chooses to extend the discount. I hope this makes more sense!

I'm glad that you got a lot out of the course work and help from the instructors. I agree - the instructors and job placement staff are really there to help!

I apologize that you weren't included in Student Daily Newsletter when you completed a course. That was an error on our part, which was happening with a couple of students who enrolled within a certain time period. This has since been corrected. Thank you for pointing that out!

Very well done on landing a job within a couple months of finishing all the course work here! Best of luck in your new career!

    A solid program.

I enjoyed my experience with The Tech Academy. The instructors were available and supportive, and the program worked great with my busy and fluctuating schedule. I truly learned a lot (being somewhat tech illiterate when I came in), and came out of the program satisfied that I got what I came for.

    Most Excellent.

I entered the Tech Academy with very limited coding experience and no idea as to what a developer does on a day to day basis. By the time I was done, I had an unrelenting impulse to learn more and more and more. It's honestly addicting, and a very profitable habit at that. The instructors are excellent, the course is incredibly thorough, and everyone is happy to help.

I cannot say enough about how much I've enjoyed my experience with The Tech Academy. Positive Mindset with a Set Direction

Before finding The Tech Academy, I had worked in a technical support role in which I grew to dislike.  After my last contract ended, I decided to take some time off and pursue other interests.  I had always known that developers are good jobs, so once I started thinking about finding a job again, being a software developer was at the top of the list.

    Great Coding Bootcamp

Overall I'm satisfied with the knowledge and experience I gained from The Tech Academy. They started from the basics on computers as it relates to computer programming, to working on your project and finally working on a live project collaborating with others! You'll encounter a few challenges. But you'll have to counter that with time you need to prepare, constant questions, and practice (you know the basic of being a student).
