The Tech Academy is a trade school headquartered in Portland, Oregon that offers full-time and part-time bootcamps online and in-person at their Portland campus. The final part of every The Tech Academy bootcamp is the Job Placement Course which covers interviewing skills, resume writing, where to find tech jobs, and gives students access to job placement staff who assist students in landing technical positions.

It's an impressively powerful language that greatly simplifies writing code. Despite being more of a night owl, I also enjoyed the chats with other students and the help I received from Alem and Brett, both excellent people! One of the most important things I've learned is that software itself is not a goal. There is so much to learn and know that it's impossible for one person to do it all.
The first course reminded me what software's roots are. It's easy to get caught up in the latest language or framework, but it's all underpinned with binary. Those fundamentals are important as languages and frameworks continue to abstract away the mechanics of computation. Each course at The Tech Academy builds on concepts from the previous in a way that guides students in a soup-to-nuts path. Where the landscape of learning software is broad and meandering, The Tech Academy has put together a concise efficient program that guides students to an impressive level of functioning right out of the gate. I got exactly what I wanted out of this experience and I couldn't recommend it enough
Ever since I was young, I always had a fascination with computers and software. I read everything I could get my hands on, started doing little projects in all my free time, attended summer camps specifically for programming. My life has basically always, in some way, revolved aroundsoftware for the past 12 years.
This past year when college wasn't quite working out for me, I decided to pack up, and move from Atlanta to Portland in early January. I started at the Tech Academy as soon as I arrived. I knew I had the skills to break into the industry, but with my partial college background, and limited formal experience, I felt like I could benefit from the training and connections at The Tech Academy.
One of the things I really enjoyed most about The Tech Academy was the self paced learning structure. I consume information quickly, and when I throw myself at something, it kind of consumes my life. I threw myself at the program for up to 10 hours a day, almost every day of theweek, living and breathing code. I came into the office as often as I could, and just worked until I either felt like I'd hit a roadblock andneeded some time to think, or felt like passing out. If you're going tobe going through this program, I recommend you take the same approach.
I've never really dived too far into .NET, there's a lot of information regarding the framework, and it's tough to pick a place to start. But the way information was presented made it easy to digest, especially for an experienced developer like myself. I got a much better grasp on databases, ASP.NET, LINQ, agile development fundamentals, GIT, and evenpython. I graduated with an MTA certification, and a lot of the holes in my self training over the years were filled. As a developer, I'm much more confident today than I was just two short months ago.
I quickly jumped into a few live projects a few weeks after starting, which consisted of live development work on paid projects. These projects directly related to the job I ended up getting at a company specializing in data acquisition and web services. When I described theskills I used on these projects in my interview with the company, they were extremely impressed that someone as young as me had worked with the specific technologies and skills used to complete these live projects.
If you're a self motivated individual that truly has a passion for software, with tons or little to no experience, and you're looking to pad your developer skills, I cannot recommend The Tech Academy enough. Just a few weeks ago I was a transplant in Portland, with no connections, no job, no plans, nothing. Now, I've got a 60k a year job with full benefits, working at an amazing company, in a beautiful office in downtown Portland, with the latest technologies as a junior software developer. Poor program
Basically a copy and paste type of school. Instructor encouraged me to copy another students GitHub code to finish final project rather than problem solving. Company bribes you with money to leave 5 star reviews upon completion of course and helps you manipulate/lie on your resume to trick companies into hiring you. I'm new to the industry, and the course starts off assuming you know very little about computers. This builds on itself, and soon you see yourself creating websites, building databases, learning about networks, and of course you get to work with some great Cyber Security tools. The organization is very transparent about costs and expectations. The staff and instructors were always very helpful and positive. The Boot Camp was well organized, and learned information was reinforced through out. This was very manageable with a full-time job. The program was much better than many of my college classes!

I started with ZERO tech knowledge. The Tech Academy (TTA) was a great place to learn the basics and get lots of hands on practice. I completed the curriculum for the Software Engineering and the Cyber Security Bootcamps. The Software Engineering was spectacular - it covered the basics of HTML, CSS, Python, C#, JavaScript, SQL Server, and a ton more. There is so much to learn out there, but if you don't know where to start, I highly recommend TTA.

The instructors were fantastic - they were available on weekdays until 7pm, and I took FULL advantage of that fact. But they were always helpful and friendly- I'm going to miss them now that I've finished. As someone who asks a LOT of questions, I couldn't imagine going through another institution where you get limited access to a support team. Being able to share your screen to quickly debug a problem was essential to my learning experience.

The instructors and job support make it worthwhile

There are a lot of free resources available for learning tech, but if you're a relative newbie like I was, the reason you'd want to invest in a program like this is all because of the guidance, focus, and clarity the instructors provide, potentially saving you a lot of time and energy.

Whenever I needed help, whether it was during the classes itself, or afterward during job placement, I invariably found the staff of the Tech Academy to be available, knowledgable, understanding, and helpful.
The job placement program, and the job placement directors, were particularly fantastic. I can't emphasize enough how much more difficult the process of navigating the murky waters of job hunting would have been without their invaluable help.
The bottom line is, after attending the Tech Academy, I am much better equipped to tackle tech projects, even those I haven't had any training in, because I learned how to learn tech, and I also learn how to hunt for tech work, which is an entirely different skill.
The lectures themselves, and the articles, are well-written and well-delivered, but the UX of the website itself is surprisingly clunky, and could definitely use an update.
I did find certain aspects of my particular bootcamp curriculum a bit disappointing, as there was less time spent on some important skills than I had originally hoped, but I believe they may have actually made some changes since I graduated.
The live project was a highlight of the bootcamp, and in fact I wish that it was longer, or at least that the weekly stand-ups (short organizational meetings generally limited to between five and fifteen minutes long, sometimes referred to as morning roll-calls or daily scrums) were actually scheduled throughout the entire camp, rather than just two weeks.
One of the reasons that I chose the Tech Academy was because of the flexibility of being able to either study at home or in-person, and it is indeed extremely flexible.
I do recommend attending in-person when you can. The pandemic was still a big concern during much of my time studying at the Tech Academy, so I ended up mainly studying at home and I definitely wished I had more opportunities to talk to other students. No doubt that could have helped somewhat during the more challenging periods, and for a general sense of camaraderie. Obviously I'm not faulting the Tech Academy for this, but it's something to consider for future students.
The administrative team was great as well. I had some challenging circumstances during the bootcamp and they were very understanding and worked with me to find solutions.

The curriculum was great, covering all the important tools and topics that you will use on the job. It also covered computer science concepts giving a well rounded education.
It was great having the support of the Job Placement team. It wasn't easy getting my first dev job but they were always there to pick me up, and to practice interviewing with etc.
All new terms were explained before watching a video which made understanding it much easier.

Great bootcamp
One of the best boot camps you will find out there. They are self paced meant for people with a job and the course ever easy to understand they make it for people that have no experience on it so everyone can understand it. You got the options to do it part time or full time. Awesome Bootcamp experience
I was very happy with the instructors at the Tech Academy. Any time I needed help or was stuck on a certain checkpoint they always were responsive and took the time to help me with any questions I had. The curriculum is a little outdated as it doesn’t focus on react much at all.
