School of Code

There are way more pros so will start with them first.- You get people from varying roles in different tech companies to come and give us talks about the industry and their experience.- From the beggining you get taught the importance of pair programming.- There are various coaches in the book camp so there is always someone you can reach out to.- It is an intensive bootcamp! some people might see this as a con but if you really want it then work for it.- Being national you get to connect and meet people from all over the UK, which is amazing.- You also get to connect with people already in the tech world who are open to help you out!.- There is a real sense of community.- Builds your confidence.
Some of the cons.- You don't get to choose who you work with but that's how it is in the job so it's also a pro.- With all the software you have to use you need a strong computer able to handle the video meeting plus the software to do the actual work.
This is an evolving program. They are always trying to improve it and things can get missed but if you give feedback it is taken in and used to improve the next one.
I loved my experience in the bootcamp, would not change it. Currently they are working hard to try and help us land that first tech role.

The School Of Code Bootcamp is intense.  However, it is extremely satisfying because everyday you learn new things.  Moreover, you not only learn specific syntax of a particular programming language or framework.  You learn how to think computationally.  You learn about IT industry standards,  best practices and why they have been put in place.  

Very early in the course you learn how to work in pairs and groups of people because it is important to be able not only know how to code, but explain what is a problem or what you are trying to achieve with your code.

My Bootcamp was split into cohorts and every cohorts was assigned coaches to help with workshops and projects.  Plus bootcampers were encouraged to to help each other too.

Finally, bootcampers get to talk to guests such as experts from IT industry who are open to any questions that related to coding or programming.

I feel immensely lucky and privileged to have had this opportunity to go through the School of Code bootcamp.
It is by far the best educational experience I've had - every side of the process is carefully considered and thought through, I felt supported every step of the way, and it has been just the right amount of challenge to be constantly switched on, but not crushed (oh yes, sometimes I felt like drowning, but then had to admit that I survived yet again).
Most importantly - we had opportunities to create achievements and build our confidence. I feel I can learn anything now - there are no limits. And I am going to continue doing just that.

Having been at home for far too long as a 40-something year old mum, I knew I needed to do something fulfilling and exciting. I had no intention of returning to my previous profession. The School of Code was my answer, a chance to learn a new skillset that was in demand, exciting, and challenging. It is a very welcoming experience from the moment you start the application. This has been the most challenging 16 weeks of my life and I have never done anything like before. But the more difficult it got, the more determined I became to succeed. During the course you will be taught everything you need to know for your first position. All of the class material was delivered remotely, but it was extremely personable. You made friends, the coaches got to know you, and you were paired with different groups each week.You are even assigned an industry mentor for weekly one-on-one sessions. The school offer code clubs.In addition, there are many industry talks. There was always a feeling that I wasn't learning enough.However, now that I've finished, I realise how much I learned. You were always taught to trust the process, and believe me, it really works. As a result, I'm looking forward to a bright future and feel like my old self again. SOC has been an absolute lifesaver for me. Definitely the best school out there! all this and for FREE. This school is incredibly diverse and awesome.

Two years ago I decided to change my career to Tech, I have been studying by myself but without any success and was feeling lost, I found School of Code and they saved me from all the frustration and difficulties that I was suffering from studying by myself and not having any support. School of code is intense, but the most rewarding experience that a person can have in his life. I recently got graduated as a software engineer and now I really feel that I am ready for starting a new career in the tech industry. 

The School of Code bootcamp experience was fantastic. I learnt a wide range of tech stacks and the necessary soft skills to get in to a tech role. The staff are passionate, knowledgable and incredibly welcoming. The environment is open to everyone and hugely supportive. The school is well connected in the industry and had interesting guest lectures throughout.

I would recommend it to anyone looking to move into the tech sector. It’s a warm and friendly environment to learn in and a great opportunity to develop!

The best way I can describe the School of Code in one sentence is “the absolute perfect place for someone to go from knowing almost nothing about programming to be ready for employment in only 16 weeks”. I enjoyed every minute of SoC from the moment we stepped in through the doors on day 1 with 24 strangers to leaving after demo day as fully fledged software developers who are now friends for life. The programme is crammed with cutting edge industry technology and best practices, which has ensured we are highly employable and it also focuses on self development and learning. It has given me the ability to go out on my own and pick up more or less any new tech stack that I wish to learn. All this is centered around a relaxed and more importantly fun environment which encourages creativity and teamwork, but that is not to say it is a walk in the park, the course is intense and requires 100% commitment from any bootcampers who are lucky enough to land themselves a space. The support you will find from everybody involved directly in SoC as well as the wider SoC community and their recruitment partner for both learning new skills and finding work once the course is over is also in incredible.I can not recommend the School of Code highly enough for anyone looking for a change in their career or looking to break into the tech industry.

Before starting the 16-week School of Code bootcamp I had not written a line of code. Now I feel more than ready for employment in the tech industry. 

At School of Code every part of the curriculum is designed to turn students into junior developers. The syllabus is built around the core languages of HTML, CSS and JavaScript for the browser, and Node.js server side. Early on, we used Express and React together to build full stack applications. These frameworks provided a platform from which to learn the many utilities and modules which facilitate the development process. School of Code has taught me to think like a programmer: breaking problems down into their smallest parts, and quickly finding existing solutions through documentation. Perhaps most importantly, I have learnt to program as part of a team through pair programming and group projects. Overall, I could not feel better prepared to begin working as a junior developer.

Aside from learning what feels like a ridiculous amount about coding and the tech industry, the experience was also really fun and rewarding on an interpersonal level. The entire School of Code community, which is made up of previous students, stakeholders and prospective employers, have all been really supportive. Although the experience stretched me and took me out of my comfort zone, I never felt so overwhelmed that I became stressed or anxious. There were always people around me that would help me to solve a particular problem, or work through a difficulty. This contributed to a great atmosphere in which to learn and grow. If you are interested in learning to code, I cannot imagine a better way to do it.
