Happy October, Course Report readers! This month, interest in blockchain continued to gain traction as we saw a new fundraise in the blockchain bootcamp space. We’ve got an update on ISA regulation, and we’re rounding up several public/private partnerships with bootcamps. In this news roundup, we’ll touch on the importance of skills-based hiring in light of a new Deloitte report, and a tech school in Brooklyn that could be an alternative to the four-year degree. Plus, we tell you all about the 7 new coding bootcamps that we added to the Course Report directory this October and 4 exclusive bootcamp scholarships just for Course Report readers!

$19M IN BOOTCAMP FUNDRAISES

• Chalq announced that they are actively raising $2M in seed round funding to take their blockchain edtech startup to market. 
• Beachcoders Academy announced a partnership with Flexspace, which will allow them to offer their program globally without the risk of long-term leases.  
• Entracker reports that venture-capital firm Info Edge has invested $17 million to acquire a majority stake in Coding Ninjas.
• Higher Ed Dive reports that Zovio shareholders just approved a plan to liquidate their assets, which will include selling Fullstack Academy. 
• Tech Elevator announced that Lisa Sydney will oversee operations of the Philadelphia and Wilmington campuses, and Kevin Gadd will oversee the Columbus campus.

AN ISA ON TRIAL

• Higher Ed Dive took a look at the ISA case involving tech sales bootcamp, Prehired.
• Reuters posted about Prehired’s bankruptcy case, which is happening alongside this ISA lawsuit. 

CONTINUED RISE OF PUBLIC/PRIVATE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

• SkillStorm announced their new initiative, Upskill Together, a paid online training program with an internship which they’ve launched with a coalition of universities like Florida State University and Jacksonville University and employers like Salesforce and Amazon Web Services.
• Technical.ly looked at how Delaware coding bootcamps, Zip Code Wilmington, Code Differently, and Tech Elevator have changed in the past five years.
• According to WV News, West Virginia’s tuition-free, online coding school, NewForce, is currently accepting applications for its seventh cohort of students.
• The The Navy Times highlighted Operation Level Up, an 18-week program through Galvanize where active duty military learn how to be software engineers.
• FE News highlighted the online front end web development program, Skills Bootcamp through edX, that Brits can take for free, thanks to the Department for Education’s Skills for Life initiative. 
• The government in Goa, India has partnered with Newton School to launch the Digital Goa Scholarship Programme, a full stack certification program.

EMPLOYERS ON SKILLS-BASED HIRING

• HR Dive explored a Deloitte report about Skills First Employers, which are employers hiring for ability over degrees. Skills Based Organizations actually outperform their peers, but many organizations are struggling to make significant changes amid calls for workplace agility.

THE LATEST ON DIVERSITY IN TECH INITIATIVES

• Computer World reports that Apple CEO Tim Cook told the BBC that “the essence of technology and its effect on humanity depends upon women being at the table. Technology’s a great thing that will accomplish many things, but unless you have diverse views at the table that are working on it, you don’t wind up with great solutions."
• Online coding bootcamp Nucamp and Google Cloud have partnered to offer a Women in Tech Scholarship. 
• For Work Shift, Paul Fain interviewed Reuben Ogbonna, the co-founder of Marcy Lab School in New York City, which is being touted as a possible true alternative to a four-year college.
• Cisco announced an initiative to provide digital and cybersecurity skills training to 25 million learners over the next decade through its Cisco Networking Academy in order to improve equity and inclusivity in the tech workspace. 

3 NEW SCHOOLS + 1 NEW CAMPUS

• According to The Capitolist, Florida International University has partnered with SkillStorm to offer cybersecurity courses.
• Fullstack Academy announced a partnership with Wake Forest University’s School of Professional Studies. 
• School of Code opened in Birmingham, UK. The first cohort kicks off in February 2023.
• Tech Elevator announced that it is opening a new campus in Washington, DC! The first cohort will begin in January 2023.

CAN YOU BEAT INFLATION WITH A CODING BOOTCAMP?
